Dihydroberberine

Dihydroberberine (DHB) is a reduced form of berberine. GlucoVantage® (NNB Nutrition) is the branded form. Reviews describe DHB as having greater lipophilicity and greater intestinal absorption than berberine, and preclinical work describes the same AMPK activating mechanism (Wang 2026, PMID: 42398618; Turner 2008, PMID: 18285556). The doses tested in humans are lower than typical berberine doses, 100 to 200mg versus 500mg, but the single human trial measured plasma absorption, not glycemic outcomes, and found no glucose or insulin effect. Berberine inhibits CYP2D6 and CYP3A4 in vitro, so the same interaction cautions should be assumed to apply.
