Methylcobalamin
MODERATE EVIDENCEVitaminLast updated
AVELOR SUMMARY
Methylcobalamin is the active coenzyme form of B12 (vs cyanocobalamin which must be converted). Better retained by tissues than cyanocobalamin. 1,000-5,000μg sublingual for deficiency correction. CRITICAL for: vegans (zero dietary B12), elderly (reduced intrinsic factor), metformin users (depletes B12), PPI users (reduced absorption). Hydroxocobalamin injection is preferred for severe deficiency.
